Schools International Combined Events 2016

The Schools International Combined Events Championships took place for a historic first time on Irish soil in AIT International Arena on Saturday 10th December. Moving from it’s usual venue of the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, the Irish Schools Athletics Association hosted the International in the year it celebrated it’s 100th year in existence. The Irish Team won two individual silver medals (Anna McCauley, Intermediate Girls & Tony Odubote Intermediate Boys) as well as two team silvers & one team bronze.

East Munster had one representative on the Irish team, Shane Monagle, Ard Scoil na Mara who competed in the Intermediate Boys competition. Shane competed very well finishing 9th overall & 2nd for the Irish team scoring a total of 3287 points & helping his team to a bronze medal. Tony Odubote, Rice College Ennis was 2nd in the same competition (3594 points) with brothers Joseph & Darragh Miniter, Ennistymon CBS in 10th & 13th places on 3223 & 3182 points.

In the Junior Boys competition, Diarmuid O’Connor, Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig had a great performance scoring a total of 3158 points & just missing out on a bronze medal by 2 points. He led the Irish team home to silver team medals behind England. Vickie Cusack, Davis College Mallow also competed well taking part in the Intermediate Girls competition to finish in 10th place overall on 3309 points winning a silver team medal with the Irish team.
