It was a fantastic day of athletics for East Munster at the Irish Life Health Irish Schools Track & Field Championships in Tullamore on Saturday 3rd June with our athletes winning a total of 30 medals. Tipperary athletes came home with 21 medals  (11 gold, 5 silver & 5 bronze) with Thurles CBS lifting the Shield for the Best Overall Intermediate Boys school for the second year in a row. Their medal winners were  Adam O’Dwyer, gold in Junior Pole Vault, Liam McDonagh, silver in Inter Walk, Jack Ryan, gold in Inter Shot Putt, David Ryan, silver in Inter Long Jump, Sean Mockler, double gold in Inter Discus & Hammer, Daniel Ryan, gold in Senior 110mH & silver in Shot Putt and silver for the Inter 4 x 100m Relay team of David & Jack Ryan, Sean Mockler, Jack Hickey & Kieren Moloney. Miriam Daly, Scoil Mhuire, COS won double gold in the 80mH & 300mH with Anna Ryan, Ursuline Thurles vaulting to a new Irish Schools record of 2.92m when she won gold in the Junior Girls competition also winning silver in the Junior Discus. Avril Deegan, Presentation Thurles won gold in the Senior Girls 3km & bronze in the 1500m with Jade O’Farrell Bond, Borrisokane CC winning bronze in the Senior Hammer & Our Lady’s Templemore winning bronze in the Minor Girls 4 x 100m Relay. Mark Carroll, Nenagh CBS won gold in the Minor Boys Long Jump with silver for Kyle Dooley, Colaiste Phobal Ros Cre in the Minor 100m. Joshua Delaney, Nenagh College won double bronze in the Junior Discus & Shot Putt with bronze for Jack Pender, High School Clonmel in the Inter 400m & Jake Vermeer, Comeragh College winning gold in the 400mH. The Ryan family made Irish Schools history with 5 siblings competing on the same day taking home 8 medals in total (3 gold & 5 silver) & 1 Irish Schools record.

Waterford athletes won 9 medals on the day (1 gold, 3 silver & 5 bronze) and the winners were sisters, Orla & Anna O’Connor, Waterpark College who were 1st & 3rd in the Senior Girls 3km Walk, Alannah Kelly, St. Augustine’s College Dungarvan who won bronze in the Junior Girls Pole Vault with a pb of 2.50m & Patrick Fitzgerald, St. Augustine’s College Dungarvan who won silver in the Inter Boys Pole Vault, James Murphy & Shane Monagle, Ard Scoil na Mara who won silver in the Senior Boys Long Jump & bronze in the Senior Boys 110mH; Tirna Ni Chathail, PS na Trionoide won silver in the Inter Girls Hammer; Micheal Power, St. Augustine’s College Dungarvan was 3rd in the Senior Boys 5km and there was bronze for Aleksander Wagner, St. Augustine’s College, Dungarvan in the Inter Boys Triple Jump with St. Declan’s winning bronze in the Senior Boys 4 x 400m Relay.
